Homayun Shajarian to reprise father’s works with National Orchestra
TEHRAN -- The conductor of Iran’s National Orchestra, Fereidun Shahbazian, has said that vocalist Homayun Shajarian, the son of Iranian music legend Mohammadreza Shajarian, will join the orchestra to redo some of the works his father who is battling cancer.
“I did my best works with Mohammadreza Shajarian,” Shahbazian told the Persian service of MNA.
“Due to the fact that Mohammadreza Shajarian is currently unable to perform in a concert, I plan to invite his son, Homayun, to join us to perform my works that his father had previously performed,” he added.
“It is a great honor to have him in our first concert that will be organized under the new management,” mentioned Shahbazian, who took the helm at the orchestra in late September.
He said that the first orchestral works performed by Mohammadreza Shajarian were composed by him.
“I am very sorry that we don’t have Mohammadreza Shajarian on the stage… we should pray that he soon recovers,” he said.
Shahbazian succeeded Farhad Fakhreddini who founded the orchestra in 1998.
After founding the National Orchestra, Fakhreddini, 80, attracted a huge number of musicians, including Mohammadreza Shajarian, to collaborate with the orchestra.
